Staying in shape while traveling should be simple. All you have to do is to have a solid routine you can commit to and a healthy attitude. Forget the easily accessible junk food and stop making excuses like, “I don’t care, I’m on vacation!”. If you keep a mindset like that while traveling, I guarantee you that you will be 5 pounds heavier when you head back home.
That is why it is important to surround yourself with fitness enthusiasts people coz they will encourage you to stay healthy no matter where you are. Recently, I joined a group of bloggers who share the same passion as mine; fitness and travel. I’m fortunate enough to have a short interview with the moderator of the group, Deasha Waddup (author of Travel N Fitness). Here are the random questions I get to ask her:
What’s your name?
Deasha
Which country do you come from or call home?
England
What is the first trip you remember taking and how old were you?
Tunisia with my parents and I was about 8 I think.
What do you do to stay healthy when you travel?
I like to feel good when I travel and staying healthy gives me the confidence to look my best and get out of my comfort zone which is when all the good stuff happens 🙂
What are your thoughts on a vegan lifestyle? Do you support it or think it is overrated?
I don’t support it or think it is overrated, I eat mostly vegetarian with the occasional bit of meat but I couldn’t switch to vegan. I love my eggs and milk too much. I admire those that do it but it is not a lifestyle choice I would make.
What are your gym bag necessities?
Towel, Phone, and headphones 🙂
Current favorite workout song?
I use Spotify and therefore usually listen to what comes on but I love Justin Timberlake Can’t stop the feeling.
Your favorite anti-stress reliever?
Running. When I feel stressed a good run clears the mind and helps me concentrate on what is important to me.
What fitness program do you practice right now?
I am in the gym most days and swimming. It is free for me right now 🙂
Have you been anywhere which turned out to be totally different to how you imagined? If so, how?
Kuala Lumpur – I thought there would be a bigger ex-pat community that I would be able to get involved in and would be able to meet tons of people but it seems very quiet.
How do you make an income while you are traveling?
I freelance as a client services manager and I am a network marketing professional for a nutritional cleansing company.
Have you had any bad experiences whilst traveling?
Not bad experiences everything is an experience and it depends on how you look at it. I have had experiences I have learned a lot from and have come out better for them.
What do you do when travel starts to feel repetitive? How do you keep each destination exciting when the same options are available?
I love this question! I walk everywhere for the first day to get to grips with the area and what is around and what there is to do. I like to get to know the locals and find out the best things to do, I read all the maps and speak to tourist offices and then make my decision on how to spend my time.
What is the best advice you can give to someone who enjoys traveling while staying fit?
Make it part of your routine. Try and do it first thing in the morning then if you get distracted in the afternoon it is ok. Make it part of how you travel!
