In memory of Las Vegas shooting victims last October 2017, let me start this post with a poem about gun violence by a fourth-grade student.

Because there was a gun
My cousin’s uncle life was done
Because there was a gun
She had no more fun
Because there was a gun
his life was bad
Because there was a gun
She felt really really sad
Because there was a gun
her family had to run
When is enough? No more silence, together we can end gun violence. #guncontrolnow
I’ve been staying in Las Vegas for over four months now, and I love it. I feel like I belong here because I go to Trufusion gym and made friends with the locals. I go hiking, eat good food, and drive around with my new friends. It definitely feels like home.
Why Vegas?
I booked my flight to the US out of the blue last November. I didn’t pick Vegas, Vegas picked me. When I say that, I mean the universe lead me here. (yeah right) The economic forecast in Nevada is sunny. As bright as the golden sun according to some industry experts. But I didn’t come here for that, coz technically I can’t work here.
I came here to see what Las Vegas has to offer. And I’m writing this article now because in the past four months I was able to document my stay in “Sin City”. To all prudes out there, I’m not gonna discuss things that will turn you off but I’m asking you to keep an open mind not to dismiss the city without setting a foot on the strip. Vegas has a lot to offer so no judging, please.
Las Vegas is the brightest city on Earth
They call it a city that never sleeps because almost everything is open 24/7. You can do anything all day and night; party, shop, dine, gamble, etc. According to NASA, the Las Vegas Strip is the brightest spot on Earth due to the concentration of hotels and casino lights when seen from space. Some cool ass astronauts took pictures of the planet Earth while they are up there on the space station. This is how Las Vegas look at night:
Pretty cool right? It looks like a brain-eating amoeba. The one in the middle (the brightest part) is the nucleus AKA the Las Vegas Strip. Anyhoo, let’s move on to the fun part. Las Vegas is also known as the “American Playground”. And no, I’m not talking about gentleman’s club where topless girls are dancing. I’m talking about world-class fun for everyone; kids, teens, adults, and seniors.
What to do in Vegas
1.) Food ⇒ Over 39 million people visited Las Vegas city last 2017. What do you think the visitors have in common? Simple answer, they all get hungry. Here in Vegas, you can eat whatever cuisine you’re craving for. From classic cheap eats to essential splurges, they have everything! If you’re a foodie like me, I’m pretty sure that 4-month stay in Vegas is not enough to explore all the restaurants we have here. Sushi, quesadilla, steak, pho, dim sum, kebab, pizza, curry, adobo, we have it all here. I promise you, you will never get hungry.
2.) Nature trips ⇒ If you’re like me who appreciates nature attractions, bring your most comfortable hiking shoes and explore Red Rock Canyon. Or if you’re into water sports, you can go to Lake Mead and Mohave for kayaking, wakeboarding, and canoeing. If you plan your vacation in Vegas around August 26 – September 3, 2018, you can participate in the annual Burning Man festival to co-create Black Rock City. (a temporary metropolis dedicated to art and community.)
3.) Concerts and shows ⇒ It’s easy to see why Las Vegas was labeled as the “Entertainment Capital of the World”. There’s an almost endless variety of events and entertainment that you and your family can enjoy. Concerts of famous singers like Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Celine Dion, Pink, etc. Or if you’re into magic, Broadway shows, Cirque du Soleil? Yep, we’ve got all that and much more.
4.) Gambling ⇒ Rack up your chips and head to poker rooms at 3 AM. Chances are some players are already drunk, play against them. You can beat ’em for sure. (lol) There are actually 40 casinos in the Las Vegas strip area and they serve free booze to all gamblers even in one dollar slots. Try Wynn, Aria, and Cosmopolitan if you want to lose your money in style. They are one of the swankiest casinos on the Strip according to a local friend of mine.
5.) The Strip ⇒ The world-famous Strip is located in Las Vegas Boulevard, where you can see the majority of the city’s best sights, gambling, food, and fun. My personal favorites are the fountains of Bellagio, Italian-themed Venetian’s canals, the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas, and the High Roller at the LINQ Promenade. All the places I mentioned are all free, yup! The best things in life are FREE.
My first impression about Vegas is for gamblers only. But after staying here for over four months, it changed my outlook. I realized that it’s a perfect destination for everyone to enjoy. Shopaholics, sports fans, foodies, adventurous peeps, literally everyone! I love Las Vegas, and I wish I can stay here for good.
